I hadn't played Guildwars for almost 2 years until a few days ago. The e-mail address this was sent to has no relation to guildwars/my account other than being the one I used to sign up here a few days ago. So, why am I suddenly recieving gw phishing scams? Has anyone else here received the same?

That's a little scary that addresses associated with this site are being targeted. Thanks for the heads up.

No matter how much I dislike NCsoft for the unfair ban they gave me, I will help you. The letter you got is 99% F-A-K-E , A-net never say "we've got the evidence to prove blah-blah" if they accuse you of something, they don't need to tell you they have the evidence, they just tell you what you did and you get a ban or some other punishment. So don't worry, the only way A-net may ever verify you're the owner of the acc is by asking you for the game codes from the boxes, they don't give a damn about your acc name and pass, they already have it . So don't worry.

That....... is odd.... o.0

You didn't get any fake ban emails until you signed up with Guru? And you've had the email for over 2 years? Uhm... Inde needs to step in ASAP and see wth that's about.

According to a certain person I know who is an admin for Guru, the security issue we had a while back with Guild Wars was somewhat in part Guru's fault. Gee... >____>

I just got one of those as well. Notice the webpage they want you to log into is a variant on the ncsoft website (including some XXX so no one follows it):

XXX.ncsoft-access.com/plaync_login.pl/default.asp

Also, check the mail header, the return path:

And there has been a lot of spam and slow loading on Guru lately. Think they're tied together?

Count me in. Would like to know what is going on. The email that I use ONLY for guild wars guru has been targeted, this email has never been associated outside of guild wars guru or with official anet/nc products/websites.

I heard something the other day...

The reason so many of them are going out is because email is 100% completely free. Start charging something for mass emails and things will change. And hell, the revenue would be great for the current global situation.

I don't send many emails so I just delete them and move on, nothing new.

I've been getting emails on the account I think this is linked to for Aion, GW (rarely), and WoW. Been getting them for months, and I don't even play 2/3 of those games. lol

I've never gotten a single piece of spam for any email associated with Guild Wars or Guru.

The spam email isn't from guru itself, but from the email notifying you of a new private message sent by an ad spammer.

Same Here. I've never had any for Guild Wars but I get a few a week in my junk folder for WoW, and I've never played it. Apparently somehow my imaginary WoW account was stolen and I need to verify to get it back...

Same for me! I get my 1-a-day for a Wow account...a game that I've never played. They are funny to read, though.

Ohh, have to go...Blizzard has invited me to Cataclysm Beta!

Some of these WoW people have funny names...
Below is a quote from a genuine scam email:

Account security is solely the responsibility of the accountholder. Please be advised that in the event of a compromised account, Blizzard representatives will typically lock the account. In these cases the Account Administration team will require faxed receipt of ID materials before releasing the account for play.

I get those WoW phishing e-mails everyday. Occasionally I get ones for GW and Aion as well. Apparently my non-existent WoW and Aion accounts will be terminated soon because of all my bad behaviour in WoW.
